The Homeless King

And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head. (Matthew 8:20)

Most homeless people have strong feelings of isolation and aloneness. In words and actions, they express a sense that they are somehow less than everyone else, that they are beneath them. So different, so unlovely, so small that not even God can love them.

But Jesus clearly stated that he had no home on earth – the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head – not even a foxhole or a bird’s nest. This Scripture is a powerful tool for breaking through to those who, isolated in life due their homelessness, also imagine they are isolated and cut off from God’s mercy, love and compassionate care.

Jesus, our merciful and compassionate Savior, not only lived among us and died for us all; he even lived as a man without a home. A wanderer with no place to lay his head. Here is a King from whom no one need feel isolated! Our Lord and King is the King of the Homeless, too. As we serve those who are lonely, defeated, and in despair, may we always remember whose precious people they are, and share the good news of their King.

When I read this I couldn’t help but think, what a mighty God we serve. He is no respecter of persons, He truly loves each and every one of us and His love isn’t based on the amount of money in our checkbooks, where we live or our status quo. He desires to reach each and every one of us if we will allow Him to. Extend an outreached hand to those in need. Be His hands and feet extended. He died for everyone, not just some.

Look To The Rock

Hearken to me, ye that follow after righteousness, ye that seek the Lord: look unto the rock whence ye are hewn, and to the hole of the pit whence ye are digged. (Isaiah 51:1)

Each of us has someone on whom we can depend, someone who is our ROCK! But the simple truth is, at some point in time, our human rock will fail us. Our only solid rock is Jesus.

We are told in Exodus 17 that when Moses smote the rock and water came forth, the Hebrew children drank “of that spiritual rock.” The Psalmist understood that the Lord is our only rock: For who is God save the LORD? Or who is a rock save our God?

If we fully depend on Him, Isaiah tells us in chapter 51:1, “Hearken to me, ye that follow after righteousness, ye that seek the Lord: look unto the rock whence ye are hewn . . .”

Did you hear that? We are hewn from THE ROCK! We are literally carved out of God Himself! I know of no other rock we need! Do you?

When I read this I was instantly reminded of the scripture, From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. He is my rock! Christ The Solid Rock on which I stand all other ground is sinking sand. Amen!

Have a wonderful day in The Lord!

Don’t Fall

Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. (1 Corinthians 10:12-13)

I went ice skating the other day. I realized the longer I was on the ice, the more grooves were put in the ice, which made it more difficult. Then, even though you are supposed to skate in a counterclockwise direction, little kids don’t follow that rule. They zigzag all over the place. Moms with very small children, who should have been skating near the wall, would skate right down the middle, constantly stopping. There was lots of falling taking place and hotshots zooming around everyone, and all I could think was today’s bible verse.

A picture of life. Just when you get going and used to the ice, there’s deep ruts that knock you off balance, and the enemy zooming at you from all directions, trying to cause you to fall.

King David said the same thing, “I said, I will take heed to my ways.” Are you aware of the path you are on and taking heed to not fall? Cleanse everything from your life that offends God. TAKE HEED LEST YOU FALL! Are you staying in prayer and in His presence? Is the Word of God hidden in your heart? Are you mindful of the enemy’s devices? You can’t live in La La Land and ignore your spiritual walk and still expect to stay upright on the ice.

Guard your path. Guard your steps. Take heed to the ways of the enemy and you will STAND in Jesus’ name!

When I read this I instantly thought, there is no mountain to high, no valley to low and no river to wide that God can’t reach you. Take time today and do a clean sweep of all the things that offend God and stand in Jesus name!! If you call on God, He will be there beside you to catch you if you fall and help you back up. Trust Him and be obedient.

Have a wonderful day in The Lord!

He is Faithful

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits. (Psalm 103:2)

The psalmists often talked to themselves in the Psalms. The author of Psalm 116 is no exception. In verse 7 he writes, “Return unto thy rest, O my soul; for the Lord hath dealt bountifully with thee.” Reminding himself of God’s kindness and faithfulness in the past is a practical comfort and help to him in the present. We see “conversations” like this frequently in the Psalms. In Psalm 103:1 David tells himself, “Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.” And in Psalm 62:5 he affirms, “My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.”

It’s good to remind ourselves of God’s faithfulness and the hope we have in Him. We can follow the example of the psalmist and spend some time naming the many ways God has been good to us. As we do, we’ll be encouraged. The same God who has been faithful in the past will continue His love for us in the future.

Dear Lord, please help me to stay in touch with Your heart today by reminding myself of Your faithfulness and love. Amen.

When I recently read this it reminded me of Gods faithfulness and how we must never forget what God has done for us in the past to uplift and encourage us in the present. Life can cause us to forget what God has done in the past and we allow ourselves to get discouraged but we must remember faithful He has been faithful He will be. God is always faithful, always powerful and always in charge.

Have a wonderful day in The Lord!
