Armour of Light

The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. (Romans 13:12)
Just as we put on clothes every day, we must put on the armor of light every day, too.
By clothing ourselves with the armor of God and His light, we are in turn wrapping ourselves with Him!
By pushing away deeds of darkness and temptations of our flesh, we pull the light of Christ closer to us.
This enables us to live nearer to Him, thus allowing us to make better decisions, have clarity of mind, more peace and joy in our lives.
There is much darkness to be found in the world, but the light of the world lives in each and every follower of Christ.
This precious light that is Jesus, lives in you!
When you go out into the world, the beautiful yet powerful light of Jesus shines through you into the lives of others. You radiate the beacon of hope that people lost in the darkness so desperately yearn for! You become a living lighthouse that points others to Jesus.
As you practice clothing yourself with the armor of light, continue to make a daily effort to live close to God. Ask and thank Him for helping you become more aware of His loving and permeating presence in your life.
Even though we will see evil around the world, the light of Christ that lives in us will always be able to pierce the deepest darkness!
“Lord, thank you for helping me to continually put on your armor of light every day. Help me to say no to temptations and push away deeds of darkness so I may draw nearer to you. Jesus, may your precious light shine through me wherever I go!”
When I read this devotion I was reminded of a book I recently read and the author said something incredibly powerful, something I’ve chosen to speak out loud every day since, over myself, over my children, over my husband, my family, over every aspect of my life, “You must choose to cancel the devils assignment in every single area of your life in the name of Jesus Christ”. When you speak The Name of Jesus Christ, you have full authority and power over the devils assignment and today, I choose to cancel/rebuke the devils assignment. What freedom we can have if we choose to rebuke the devil in his tracks. Will you choose to openly cancel the devils assignment over every area of your life, starting today? Let’s link arm in arm and put the devil and his demons out of commission and call upon The Lord and His host of angels. Ephesians 6:12, For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Your Shining for Jesus Wherever You Are

Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. (Matthew 5:14-16)
The news headlines drifted in from the living room as I sat at my desk. The story of yet another tragedy contrasted so sharply with what I was writing that I stopped, sighed and leaned back in my chair. A sense of despair washed over me.
“Lord,” I silently prayed, “is there anything I can do about the darkness in this world? It seems so overwhelming.”
I sensed a gentle whisper within my heart replying, “The only way to get rid of the darkness is to add more light.”
Darkness is the absence of light. Trying to go after it directly is like chasing your shadow. You can’t bag it up and throw it away. Only light is powerful enough to make the darkness disappear. During the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus made it clear that we are the light of the world. We are called to shine. But the light we share is not our own.
From the very beginning of creation, God has been the source of light both spiritually and literally. Genesis 1:2-3 says, “And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light”.
Imagine a world full of darkness. Then with four small words, light blazes forth. Every living thing in our world relies on light for its existence – plants, animals and people. The God who brought light to the world also brings it to our lives. As 2 Corinthians 4:6 says, “For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ”.
The best part of all is that we don’t have to be like the light bulb that said, “I have to find a way to shine!” The light bulb went to a self-help meeting to learn about its inner capacity for light. It read books about how to get brighter. Each morning the light bulb would get up and recite positive affirmations. “I am a light bulb. I believe in myself. I will shine!” But nothing happened.
Eventually the light bulb became weary and discouraged. It began to doubt who it was and what it could do. It almost burned out completely. Fortunately, one day the light bulb was carefully placed in a fixture. Light burst forth and filled the room. The light bulb finally understood. The key was not to try harder but to plug into the source.
Trying to shine on our own can be exhausting. Instead, we’re simply called to be closely connected to God and remain in Him. When we do, His light pours forth through us in powerful, brilliant ways that change the world. The ways we shine might not make the news, but they make even more of a difference than we can see.
Lord, thank You for being the light within us so we can shine brightly for the world around us. When it seems darkness is crowding in, use us to make a difference. We ask that You will help us share Your love, joy and peace – especially this time of year. You are the hope we need and the One light that will never burn out, be overcome or fade away. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
I needed to be reminded of this today. I haven’t felt my light has shined as bright as it should over the past few weeks, months or even the year. The past year has flown by so fast and it’s so easy for the darkness to crowd my light but I am, you are a child of God, a shining light, no matter what your facing, He is indeed the very hope we need, the One light that will never fad, never burn out. What hope! If you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you, Matthew 17:20. Faith and hope, no matter the darkness I feel from time to time, I choose to shine for Jesus wherever I am. I can say with confidence that the one person I have faith and hope in is my Savior, my Friend, He chose me, He chose you.

Dangerous Distractions

By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. (John 13:35)
Artist Sigismund Goetze shocked Victorian-era England with a painting entitled “Despised and Rejected of Men.” In it, he portrayed the suffering, condemned Jesus surrounded by people of Goetze’s own generation. They were so consumed by their own interests—business, romance, politics—that they were shockingly oblivious to the Savior’s sacrifice. Indifferent to Christ, the surrounding crowd, like the mob at the foot of Jesus’s cross, had no idea what—or who—they had missed.
In our day as well, believers and unbelievers alike can easily become distracted from the eternal. How can followers of Jesus cut through this fog of distraction with the truth of God’s great love? We can begin by loving one another as fellow children of God. Jesus said, “Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples” (John 13:35 nlt).
But real love doesn’t stop there. We extend that love by sharing the gospel in hopes of drawing people to the Savior. As Paul wrote, “We are . . . ambassadors for Christ” (2 Corinthians 5:20).
In this way, the body of Christ can both reflect and project God’s love, the love we so desperately need, to both each other and to our world. May both efforts, empowered by His Spirit, be a part of cutting through the distractions that hinder us from seeing the wonder of God’s love in Jesus.
While I was reading this devotion I came across this saying and I had to share it, “To a world living in the fog of distraction, we bring the light of the good news of Jesus”. Be a light in someone’s fog today, don’t allow distractions of self interest detour you from making a difference in someone’s life today. We are ambassadors for Christ.

Light of The World!

Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. (Matthew 5:14)
I recently read this and I felt it was worth sharing. Not long ago I went to a seamstress to have some clothing altered. As I entered her shop I was encouraged by what I saw on the walls. One sign read, “We can mend your clothes but only God can mend your heart.” Near it was a painting of Mary Magdalene weeping in anguish as the risen Christ was about to reveal Himself to her. Another sign asked, “Need prayer? Let us pray with you.”
The owner told me that she had run this small business for fifteen years. “We’ve been surprised how the Lord has worked here through the statements of faith we have posted in different places. A while back someone trusted Christ as their Savior right here. It is amazing to watch God work.” I told her I too was a Christian and commended her for telling others about Christ in her workplace.
Not all of us are able to be so bold in our workplace, but we can find many creative and practical ways of showing others unexpected love, patience, and kindness wherever we are. Since leaving that shop, I’ve been thinking about how many ways there are to live out our Lord’s statement: “Ye are the light of the world” (Matt. 5:14).
Dear Father, use me to be a light today to the world around me. I love You and want others to know and love You too. Amen.
God pours His love into our hearts to flow out to others’ lives.
I recently read this and it made me think of how every day I remind myself and my children to show the Love of Christ. My prayer for you is that you also show the Love of Christ today and every day by showing unexpected love, patience, and kindness. You never know the impact you will make on someones life by being a light in this dark world.
