Be Strong and of Good Courage

Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. (Isaiah 41:10)

God tells us how to go through fear.

Isaiah 41 challenges us to not be controlled by fear.

God is with you & will bring you His strength.

He says do not get discouraged or disillusioned.

We may not be able to control the things that scare us, but we can certainly get through those things with the peace that comes from spiritual maturity.

Don’t let fear control you! God is with you and He is for you!

Walk through your storms with your head up, confident in Him. God knows your outcome and you can rest in that!

Be strong and of good courage, and do it: fear not, nor be dismayed: for the Lord God, even my God, will be with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee . . . (1 Chronicles 28:20)

When I read this devotion I felt it needed to be shared. We all struggle with a certain amount of fear, some more than others and some not willing to admit it but if you take anything from this devotion I pray it’s this, “Don’t let fear control you! God is with you and He is for you!” The remarkable thing about God is that when you fear God, you fear nothing else, whereas if you do not fear God, you fear everything else.

Fear of Fear

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. (1 John 4:18)

A woman fears that her husband or friend group will abandon her.

The boss says, “we need to talk” and immediate panic arises.

Fear whispers or shouts we will lose something or that what we have is fragile.

Fear says you are not safe or loved in a real way and results in…

  • fear of conflict
  • fear that relationships are fragile
  • fear that we are needy
  • Fear that ruin is around every corner

I will not obey my fear. Fear is not from God and I will stop believing it.

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7)

I felt this devotion, while short, is so powerful and needed to be shared. I pray you don’t allow fear to dictate your future.

Holding Fast to Our Convictions

But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were illuminated, ye endured a great fight of afflictions; 33 Partly, whilst ye were made a gazingstock both by reproaches and afflictions; and partly, whilst ye became companions of them that were so used. 34 For ye had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance.35 Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward. 36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. 37 For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry. 38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. 39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul. (Hebrews 10:32-39)

It’s easy to hold firm to our beliefs when we’re with like-minded people in church. But if we’re among people who doubt or disagree with Christianity, we need courage to stand up for the truth of God’s Word.

In these situations, we might be tempted to compromise our convictions out of fear, such as:

• Fear of Criticism. Believers standing up for God’s truth will likely get criticized by people who don’t share their beliefs.

• Fear of Rejection. If we live by our convictions or verbally share our faith, we may not be accepted by those who follow their own desires.

• Fear of Loss. Sometimes we don’t want to take a godly stand because we could lose our friends. But anyone who keeps us from obeying the Lord is not a true friend.

Sacrificing righteous standards in order to please others will keep us from the fullness of what God has planned for our life. It’s better to live for Christ and follow His commandments so we can glorify Him.

As God’s people, we hold on to our convictions, no matter the consequences. Pleasing Christ is our highest priority and well worth our standing firm for Him.

When I read this devotion it blessed me. So often we are as today’s devotion says, tempted to compromise our convictions. Today, I pray after reading this devotion you are encouraged to take a stand for what you believe. I am reminded of an old but powerful hymn, If none go with me still I will follow, no turning back, no turning back.

Love Like He Loves You

A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. (John 13:34-35)

Love is not just a feeling. It is an action. Jesus tells us that others will know us by our love..

He also tells us that we ought to love one another.

1 Corinthians 13: 4-8 reads: “Love is patient, love is kind.

It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.

Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth.

It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.”

True love in action puts the needs of others before our own.

It doesn’t retaliate when someone hurts us.

It is kind, giving to those who don’t always deserve it or may not have earned it by your definition.

True love is selfless, not self-serving.

How might you show love today to someone in your life today?

Who in your life needs a glimpse of God’s love, regardless of whether you think they deserve it?

When I read this devotion it blessed me. I felt it needed to be shared time and again. We all need this reminder, Love is patient and kind. Lord, help us to love like we have been loved.
